Doomsday 2012

Is Doomsday end of World... Or we have more to go...

The ancient Mayan calendar ends in just over a week, causing mixed reactions all over the world as some believe it may mean the end of civilization.
Thousands of travelers started to flock to Mexico and Central America for a series of celebrations to welcome the 'end of the world' on December 21. However, many believe the end of the current calendar just means that humanity is about to embark on the next Mayan era.

A noted numerologist from the city  said the frequency of customers picked up three months ago with nearly 20 such enquiries coming in daily.  Immediately after the news of the earthquake in Japan and the Tsunami threat spread on Friday, people started thinking if these are the end of world.

"All reactions to the doomsday prophecy show a strong recognition of the crisis of human existence," Wang Sichao, an astronomer at China's Nanjing Purple Mountain Observatory, said.

Mr Wang's comments magnify the world's reaction to the Mayan doomsday countdown, of which unfortunately many believe. And because many believe, a slew of rather illogical behaviours have taken place in order perhaps to salvage one's existence.

Astrologers have dismissed the doomsday theory, but said a minor natural disaster may occur soon. Our calendar and beliefs are different than those followed by the Mayans. In the past too there have been many such claims, but none have come true. According to Hindu astrology, Kalyug, the current period will last for another 4.3 lakh years

Discovery news states: "The 2012 doom and gloom folks have glommed onto all kinds of nonsensical predictions where the Milky Way galaxy disrupts us: the passage of the solar system across the galactic plane, or a supposed "grand alignment" with the galactic center will trigger a mysterious and nondescript celestial 'force. In reality, our Milky Way really does pose numerous hazards to Earth during the sun's orbital journey around the galactic center. But no future space disaster can be circled on a calendar on Dec. 21 or any other date."
